Why Piers Morgan apologised to Beyoncé, JAY

Piers Morgan is walking back claims made on his show — and apologizing.

During the introduction of an episode of his YouTube channel Uncensored on Tuesday, Oct. 8, the talk show host, 59, revealed he had received a legal letter from JAY-Z and Beyoncé after a guest on his show made allegations about the rapper and his superstar wife.

Last week, Morgan interviewed singer-songwriter Jaguar Wright about the arrest and federal indictment of music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, which included her branding both Diddy and JAY-Z “monsters.” Per The Hollywood Reporter, Wright also alleged that JAY-Z and Beyoncé had “hundreds of victims,” though the catalyst for her statement was not clear.

“Jaguar, unexpectedly, made several serious allegations about JAY-Z and Beyoncé during that interview,” Morgan said during his introduction Tuesday. “As I said in the moment, they were not present to respond or defend themselves, but now they have.”

He added, “Their lawyers contacted us to say that those claims were ‘totally false’ and have no basis in fact, and we’ve therefore complied with a legal request to cut them from the original interview.”

“Editing interviews is not something we do lightly at a show called Uncensored but like the proverbial cries of fire in a crowded theater, there are legal limits on us, too,” he continued. “And we apologize to JAY-Z and Beyoncé.”

“The thing about platforms, the reality of the modern world is that pretty much everyone has a platform as long as they have something to say that other people want to hear,” Morgan said. “That’s why we invited [Wright] on to be interviewed. The people making these claims have an audience with or without shows like mine.”
