In November 2023, Cassie filed a lawsuit against her ex-boyfriend Sean “Diddy” Combs, accusing the 54-year-old rapper of raping and sexually abusing her for 10 years. In her statement, Cassie said that she decided to stand up to her powerful boyfriend so that other women who are being abused can have the courage to fight back. 

“After years of silence and living in the dark, I am finally ready to tell my story. I am speaking for myself and for other women who suffer violence and sexual abuse in their relationships.”

Cassie’s action began to “ignite” the “shocking” sexual case in Hollywood. In the lawsuit, the singer said that Diddy caused her to become addicted, struggling with drugs and alcohol. Cassie accused her ex-boyfriend of often having uncontrollable fits of rage and hitting her in front of staff. 

After the violent attacks, Sean Combs would often hide his girlfriend in hotels for days to let the bruises fade and thus hide the fact that he had beaten Cassie.

In May 2024, CNN published a clip of the rapper assaulting his ex-girlfriend in a hotel. The surveillance footage was compiled and edited from multiple angles and was filmed on March 5, 2016. The incident took place at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles. CNN verified the location based on previously public photos of the hotel’s interior. This is considered the most compelling evidence that Diddy brutally abused Cassie.

In the video, Diddy leaves his hotel room with a towel wrapped around his waist, runs down the hallway, grabs Cassie by the back of the neck and throws her to the ground. The rapper holds the towel in one hand, then turns around and kicks his girlfriend. Cassie falls to the ground and Diddy kicks her repeatedly. The music mogul then grabs her by the shirt and drags her back to his room.
